JKAID Partners with Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for Pediatric Surgery Fund
A new partnership with Ghana's leading teaching hospital will provide subsidized surgeries for children from low-income families across the Greater Accra Region.
JKAID Hope Foundation has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra to establish a dedicated Pediatric Surgery Fund. The fund will subsidize life-saving surgical procedures for children from low-income families across the Greater Accra Region, with an initial target of supporting 200 procedures within its first year of operation.
The partnership was formalized at a signing ceremony attended by the hospital's Chief Executive, representatives from the Ministry of Health, and JKAID's leadership team. Under the terms of the agreement, JKAID will cover up to 80 percent of surgical costs for qualifying families, with Korle-Bu contributing specialist surgical teams and post-operative care at reduced rates.
"This partnership represents a significant step forward in our mission to ensure that no child in Ghana is denied surgery because their family cannot afford it," said the JKAID Executive Director at the signing ceremony. "Korle-Bu's world-class surgical facilities combined with our fundraising network means we can reach far more children than either organization could alone."
The fund will prioritize children aged 0 to 12 years who require urgent surgical intervention for conditions including congenital heart defects, hernias, orthopedic corrections, and tumor removals. A joint screening committee comprising medical professionals from both organizations will assess applications on a rolling basis.
To qualify, families must demonstrate financial hardship through a means assessment conducted by JKAID's case workers. The Foundation's Family Navigation team will also provide end-to-end support, guiding parents through the referral process, hospital admission, and post-discharge follow-up.
The initiative builds on JKAID's existing track record of funding individual surgeries on a case-by-case basis. In 2025 alone, the Foundation funded 89 pediatric surgeries across four hospitals in Ghana. The Korle-Bu partnership is expected to more than double that capacity.
Corporate sponsors and individual donors interested in contributing to the Pediatric Surgery Fund can do so through the JKAID website. Every donation is fully accounted for, with quarterly impact reports published to all contributors.
